Safeguarding linguistic diversity is of utmost importance to preserve Europe's rich cultural heritage in Europe. The presence of regional and minority languages on digital media in a fundamental step in this direction.
To date, Europe's linguistic diversity is only partially reflected in the digital world: the wealth of regional and minority languages is still much under-represented and largely excluded from digital services that are usually available in EU national languages. By being kicked out from the digital arena, EU regional and minority languages have less and less contexts where they can be used, their profile is lowered, and their life expectancy overall diminished.
